아버지의 자녀양육 역할참여에 관한 문헌 고찰 = Father Involvement in Child Rearing: A Literature Review

It was not until the mid-I980s when the concepts of fatherhood and father involvement have become emerging themes in child development research. The importance of father involvement in child care has been considered as an essential factor in fostering child development and in promoting well-being of children. In this paper, current status of fatherhood research was reviewed with a focus on father involvement. An overview of recent literature on father involvement was presented and the contexts and domains of father involvement were examined. The models and types of father involvement were presented and discussed with regard to gender differences. It was found that the ways that fathers engage with their children have changed greatly both in the West and in Korea due to the major changes happened in the family types and family functions. The influence of quality fathering was emphasized as a critical factor in facilitating children's balanced development.
