Among the major issues discussed by classroom SLA researchers is the controversial question of whether and how "grammar" should be included in L2 instruction. The debate on the degree to which teacher or learner attention should be directed to linguistic features has a long history. It is probably unique among issues in SLA, given the extent to which such discussion brings together the concerns of both researchers and practitioners and often goes right to the heart of strongly held beliefs and views. The present paper not only explores the roles of grammar practice and C- R (consciousness raising) in promoting SLA but also examines the effectiveness the implementation of the latter might bring about in the foreign language classroom. Two CR activities are illustrated in the hope that they would result illuminating and easy to adapt if transferred to other contexts and aged groups.
