Directional solidification experiments were conducted on Al-NiAl_3 eutectic alloys to analyze the tensile and torsional behaviors quantitatively. The effects of growth rate and copper content on the composite strength were investigated. The composite strength could be estimated by the rule of mixtures. And the calculated tensile and torsional strengths of NiAl_3 fiber were 165kg/㎟ and 28kg/㎟, respectively.
In the case of tensile strength, the fiber contribution on the composite strength was great, but in the case of torsional strength the composite strength mainly depended on the matrix.
