In this paper, we have discussed edge detection that suppressing noise, smoothing edge using three-type median filters at radar image.
At radar brightness of reflection wave depend on conditions of weather, properties of objects, shapes, positions and sizes. And, image occurs interference which mixed with scattering of rain, waves, etc.
Proposed three-type median filters (SQUARE, CROSS, X-SHAPE) that preserving edge in an original image while reducing random noise was introduced for image enhancement and edge detection at radar image.
Since radar image have a number of parts of curve, we compared results produced by edge detection operater produced for improving the parts of curve with results of using edge detection methods of existing, such as Roberts, Sobel, Prewitt, Laplacian and Kirch.
According to results of this experiments, median filtered image is less noise than original image and preserving edge in an original image. And, edeg detection operater proposed in this paper, sharpening detected edge rather than existing methods.
Finally, it was appeared that median cross filter among three-type median filters have best results.
