해방 후 한국개신교 사회 참여에 나타난 교회와 국가의 관계 = A Study on the Relation between Church and State in the Social Participation of Korean Protestant Church from 1960 to 1987

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 한국개신교 사회참여에 나타난 교회와 국가의 관계에 관한 연구이다. 한국개신교회는 교회와 국가와의 관계에 있어서 그 신학적 차이와 정치신학의 부재로 사회참여에 있어서 전혀 상반된 실천을 보여 왔다. 진보진영은 민주화와 인권운동에 헌신해 왔고, 보수진영은 정교분리를 주장하며 진보진영과 대립하였다. 양 진영의 이러한 대립은 기본적으로 교회와 국가의 관계에 대한 이해의 차이에서 비롯되었다. 그래서 본 논문의 목적은 한국 개신교 사회참여를 역사적으로 고찰하고, 이를 유형화하여 각 유형에 나타난 교회와 국가의 관계를 신학적으로 분석하는데 있다. 이는 또한 한국 개신교 사회참여의 다양성차원을 규명하는 것이기도 하다. 이 글은 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 `다양성 속에서 일치`를 추구하는 에큐메니칼적 통합교회사 서술방법론을 사용한다. 먼저 다양성 차원에서 한국교회의 독특한 역사를 서술하고, 일치의 차원에서 한국교회의 특수성을 세계적이고 보편적인 교회사에 비추어 비교, 평가 하는 것이다. 좀 더 구체적으로 말하면, 먼저 다양성 차원에서 한국개신교회 민주화와 인권운동을 중심으로 한 사회참여와 그 속에 나타난 교회와 국가를 관계를 역사적으로 고찰한다. 그리고 이것을 일치의 차원에서 세계교회사 전통에 나타난 교회와 국가의 관계와 비교하여 분석하고, 그 역사적이고 신학적 상관성을 규명하는 것이다. 특히 16세기 종교개혁기 루터, 칼뱅, 그리고 급진적 종교개혁자인 재세례파와 토마스 뮌쳐의 교회와 국가의 관계와 한국개신교회의 사회참여에 나타난 교회와 국가의 관계와의 신학적 상관성을 조명해 보는 것이다. 필자의 연구에 의하면, 진보진영인 에큐메니칼 유형의 사회참여에 나타난 교회와 국가의 관계는 개혁교회 전통의 `하나님 주권론`에 기초하고 있다. 그리고 저항권 문제와 관련하여 에큐메니칼형 사회참여는 칼뱅의 저항권 개념을 넘어서 적극적 저항을 주장하는 토마스 뮌쳐적 저항권 개념에 가깝다. 중도진영인 복음주의형 사회참여에 나타난 교회와 국가의 관계는 화란 개혁교회 전통의 `그리스도 주권론`에 기초하고 있다. 그러나 적절한 폭력을 포함한 적극적 저항을 주장한 에큐메니칼 진영과는 달리, 복음주의 진영의 저항권 개념은 철저히 종교개혁가 칼뱅의 불복종, 즉 `수동적 저항`에 정초되어 있다. 한편 보수진영인 친정부형 사회참여에 나타난 교회와 국가의 관계는 `정교분리론` 의 형태를 띠고 있다. 그리고 보수진영은 히틀러 치하의 독일 교회의 경우처럼 루터적 두 왕국론의 오용인 이중윤리의 위험성, 세속화의 위험성, 세속권세에 대한 묵종주의 경향성을 띠었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this article is to study the relation between Church and State in the social participation of Korean protestant church from 1960 to 1987. Because of the lack of political theology, Korean Protestant church shows the theological differences in the relation between church and state and acts the diverse practices in the social participation. On the one hand, Progressive Group devoted to democratization and human dignity Movements in Korea, On the other hand, Conservative Group devoted to evangelization, asserting the separation between church and state. This opposition between Progressive Group and Conservative Group basically originated from the differences of perspective on the relation between church and state. For that reason, this study is theologically to analyze the relation between church and state in Korean Protestant Church, and then typologically to pattern the relation between church and state in Korean protestant Church. At the same time this study is to inquire into the dimension of diversity in the social participation of Korean protestant Church. In order to obtain these purposes, this study used the historigraphy of ecumenical church history that is seek to `unity in diversity`. So, this study described the specific history of Korean church at the dimension of diversity, and then compared the specific history of Korean church with the universality of World Christian history at the dimension of unity. First of all, this study compared the relation between church and state in the tradition of Korean protestant church with the relation between church and state in the tradition of World Christian history; and also examined the theological relationship between two traditions. Specially, this study compared the relation between church and state in Korean protestant church with the relation between church and state in Reformers of sixteen Century. In contents, the range of this study is focused on democratization and human Dignity Movements under a military Regime in Korea. In other words, this deals with the political participation of korea protestant church in fact; and periodically deals with from 1960 to 1987.
