In order to look into the effect on middle aged women``s scalp hair by a combined intake of enzyme food known to be helpful for digestion and absorption of dietary nutrients and collagen known to be effective for skin improvement, this study selected a total 60 women in their age 40``s to 60``s as test subjects and assigned 15 subject respectively in a control group(Cont.), a intake group(E) of enzyme food 3 g, a intake group(C) of collagen 3 g and a combined intake group(EC) of enzyme food 3g and collagen 3g with every morning and evening meal, 2 times a day. It was carried out for 12 weeks and measured and compared the status of their hairs before and after intake of the dietary medication for each group. As a result, the number of hairs per unit area (3.6 mm × 2.8 mm), the number of hairs per hair follicle, thickness, tensile strength and the amino acid content of hairs decreased by 3.6%, 5.1%, 1.4%, 0.4%, 7.5% in Cont., they significantly increased by 14.6%, 12.1%, 15.9%, 6.3%, 5.7% in EC, each of which were more effective than E and C. In addition, in a comparison of the absorbance and brightness, redness and yellowness of the hairs, they increased in Cont., and they significantly decreased by 20.0%, 6.5%, 11.7% and 9.4% in EC, each of which were more effective than E and C. Therefore, it was found that a combined intake of enzyme food and collagen is more effective than a single intake of enzyme food or collagen for improving scalp hair of middle aged women, who are in a poor intake of ingredients and have less activity of digestive enzyme by aging.
