Modern automatic transmission is experiencing high engine torque and rather small room for installation. Therefore, transmission designers have a big concern to have optimized component to pack in a limited space. Higher warranty mileage is also a hurdle to challenge to design robust parts. For clutch designers, single sided plate is easy and space saving design compared to conventional double sided design. Furthermore, forecast of clutch life cycle is not fully developed thus leads lots of error to predict. A simulation model to find out the temperature from the heat that is generated during the clutch engaging was developed in this research, and prediction the life cycle with this temperature could be realized. Verification the model with the test pieces with SAE No.2 machine to find out the error between model and real clutches was also done. Consequently, a tool was developed to forecast the life cycle of clutches especially for single sided clutches that can be used clutch design.
