Direct drive motor has many strengths. However, it also has a typical problem that weak at disturbance. When disturbance applied, air gap, the distance between stator and rotor, is changed and it can cause difficulty of motor position control and even breakdown of a motor. Therefore, problems that caused by disturbance, can be controlled by measuring the change of air gap. In this paper, new air gap measuring method is suggested. Predicting the change of air gap by doing dynamic analysis of the DDM and current measuring. Also do the feasibility test by simulation to know about possibility of a new method.
