      Adiponectin and c-reacitve (CRP) protein secreted by adipose tissue, related to metabolic syndrome in obese postmenopausal women. Therefore, we examined plasma adiponectin and CRP after thermotherapy. Plasma adiponectin, CRP, waist circumference, free fatty acids, weight, % body fat and body surface area (BSA) measures were determined in obese postmenopausal women (n=21) at before and after thermotheraphy (half bath in hot water, 42±0.5°C, 30min/time, 15 times, 4 weeks). Compared to before, significantly higher mean adiponectin (p<.01), free fatty acids(p<.01) and significantly lower c-reactive protein (p<.01), waist circumference (p<.01), weight (p<.05), % body fat and body surface area (p<.01) after thermotheraphy. In conclusions, 4-weeks of thermotherapy were effective in elevating plasma adiponectin and lowering CRP in obese postmenopausal women. The results suggest that thermotheraphy with half-bath immersion may help improve metabolic dysregulation and systemic inflammation in postmenopausal obese women who may have limited exercise due to cultural or economic limits.
