알버트 허쉬만의 발전론 연구 = “숨은 손”이 인도하는 여러 갈래의 길

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 허쉬만의 발전론 3부작인 The Strategy of Economic Development(1958), Journeys Toward Progress(1963), Development Projects Observed(1967)를 중심으로 유관 논문과 저서를 발전론적인 측면에서 심층 분석하여 체계적으로 소개하는 것이다. 허쉬만의 발전론은 전통적 발전경제학(그리고 그 연장에서 근대화론)은 물론 종속이론적 시각과도 뚜렷한 차별성을 드러내는 독창적인 것으로서 그 근간은 결정론적 사고를 배제하는 허쉬만 특유의 정치경제학적 시각 그리고“가능한 것에의 열정”이라는 사회심리학적 요인에 기초하여 있다. 또한 허쉬만의 주장은 비교 발전론적인 시각에서 과거 한국형 발전 모델의 재해석에 대한 단초를 제공하는 중요한 시사점이 있음을 발견하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Based upon his development trilogy The Strategy of Economic Development(1958), Journeys Toward Progress(1963), Development Projects Observed (1967) and other related materials, this paper mainly aims to systematically introduce Albert O Hirschman’s theory on development. While disassociating his theory from two dominant paradigms of modernization and dependency perspective, Hirschman develops his own political economy which , by delicately incorporating socio-psychological aspects to the understanding of development, emphasizes “the passion for the possible.” By extension, this study also carefully grope for the possibility of applicating his theory to the past Korean development experiences for alternative interpretation.
