This study aims to understand the ‘impact of high-grade elementary school students’ cognitive vulnerability on speech anxiety mediated by stress from personal issues and social anxiety. The research subjects are a group of 758 fifth and sixth graders in elementary school in the Gyeongsangnam-do area. To draw research results, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, single regression analysis, and mediation regression analysis were utilized.
The results of the validation of the seven hypotheses set up in this study are as follows. First, cognitive vulnerability had a significant impact on speech anxiety.Second, cognitive vulnerability had a significant impact on stress from personal issues. Third, cognitive vulnerability had a significant impact on social anxiety.Fourth, stress from personal issues had a significant impact on speech anxiety. Fifth, social anxiety had a significant impact on speech anxiety. Sixth, cognitive vulnerability had a significant impact on speech anxiety mediated by stress from personal issues. Seventh, cognitive vulnerability had a significant impact on speech anxiety mediated by social anxiety. Furthermore, in the relationship between cognitive vulnerability and speech anxiety, stress from personal issues and social anxiety had partial mediating effects. Hopefully, this study would be the foundation for research and education for the improvement of speech anxiety.
