This study was performed to investigate the effect of Daeyoung-Jun in oriental medicine on climacteric disturbance.
The experimental model of menopause was induced by bilateral ovariectomy in rats. These were administered orally with liquid extract Daeyoung-Jun 1.6g/kg for 30 days before ovariectomy (Sample A group), for 30 days after ovariectomy(Sample B group) and after an additional 30 days of ovariectomy (Sample C group). The level of serum FSH, serum LH, serum estradiol, serum progesterone, total ash weight, calcium in the tibia, serum osteocalcin, serum alkaline phosphatase activity was measured. The differences in these levels were obtained at 40, 50 and 60 days after ovariectomy.
From this study we could recognize that Daeyoung-Jun has the effect of controling the hypothalamus-pituitary gland-ovary axis, so it can improve sex hormone changes and the imbalance of bone metabolism.
We came to find out that the most appropriate dosing time was athe Sample C group. Therefore we expect that this kind of oriental medical treatment can be used for osteoporosis.
