서사담론으로서의 가족애 = Family affections as Narrative Discourse

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of the paper is to explicate the structure and significance of family relation from the perspective of the philosophy of emotion and narrative theory. I call words referring to family or family relation 'family language'. Family language here is treated as an example of indexicals. Since the meaning of indexicals is determined in accord with the features of a given situation and the relation of the subject to the referents, the meaning of family language is also determined by the subject with the feeling of intimacy and attachment, in a significant relation to a person. Family relation is constituted of such intimate feelings and affective memory, not by the so-called definitional qualities. Thus family relation cannot be preconceived before the subject uses family language to indicate the special relation and significance towards specific persons. The foundation supporting such usage of family language does not exist independently of the subject's affections and emotion-narrative concerning significant others. In that sense, family relation is part of the identity of subject and also regarded as intrinsically valuable.
