한국 주크박스 뮤지컬에 대한 연구 : 뮤지컬 <젊음의 행진>을 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Musical has the largest percentage at performance market and it is a stage art’s genre which is never separated from the public. Specifically jukebox musical which number consists of the popular song has very close relationship with popularity.
Musical genre works beyond music drama and dance drama has been created since the 1960s in South Korea; however, advanced research is insufficient as the history was short. Especially, only a very small minority of research on jukebox musical exists. Most of research about Jukebox musical issued in domestic have dealt with worldwide steady seller musical <Mamamia!> consisting of ABBA musics. As other Korean creation jukebox musical, only a few research such as musical <the days> or <December: never ending song> made by the late Kim Gwang-Suk exist.
For a while, some words such as‘Slow food’ or ‘Aesthetics of slow’ appeared and newly stimulated the emotion of turbulent times. As a similar context, if ‘old people’ listen to electronic music or songs composed of neologism which never causes attention and hard to understand, people become to recall lyrical song and a rustic rhythm and melody again.
As if representing this kind of fact, Cable channel tvN had broadcasted <Reply> series which dealt with daily life and social issues in detail in the 1990s since 2012. This drama series had swept three times the whole country for 4 years. Furthermore, it put the generation who did not experience the period into old song’s attraction by remaking and issuing the time’s popular songs which appeared in the drama. Since the period of broadcasting and performance of 2015 musical <March of Youth> was overlapped with <Reply 1988(2015)>, it suited to more wide range of audience’s palate. And it was the great box office hit since the performance season has started in 2007.
K-POP and singers singing K-POP are spotlighted in abroad and the culture contents of Korea are continuously touching off a boom at movies and dramas. I suggest that our musical market also study & develop K-Musical and participate in globalization by our musical based on rapid reaction and contents analysis.
This research is being proceeded based on musical <March of Youth> which has been loved for such a long time among Korea creation jukebox musical. Furthermore, research on other contents which have worth to compare and analyze will be proceeded together including the nature of this work.
The formation of this research as following. Firstly, chapter 1 explains the study goal and object about Korea creation jukebox musical and the composition. Furthermore, it considers advanced research and lists study methods. Chapter 2 explains the definition of jukebox musical and examines the history of jukebox musical. Also, arranging the history of Korea creation musical and examine the nature. Also, it examines jukebox musical and popular music concert together. After that, chapter 3 narrows down the range in earnest. With Korea creation jukebox musical <March of Youth> as the center, it will examine the utilization of the existing content materials in detail. It will also examine work script and the number.
After analysing a work in earnest, it will analyze the merits and demerits of each other through comparative analysis with a few other contents. At the conclusion, it may suggest the prospect and development direction of future Korea creation jukebox musical based on the pre-analyzed contents.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

뮤지컬은 공연 시장 내에서 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있으며, 대중성과 떼려야 뗄 수 없는 무대예술의 한 장르이다. 그 중 특히나 넘버가 대중가요로 이루어진 주크박스 뮤지컬은 대중성과 굉장히 밀접한 관련을 갖고 있다.
우리나라에서도 1960년대부터 악극과 무용극을 넘어 뮤지컬이라는 장르의 작품들이 창작되기 시작했는데, 역사가 그리 길지 않은 만큼 선행 연구 자료가 많지 않고, 특히나 주크박스 뮤지컬에 관한 연구는 극소수만이 존재한다. 국내에서 발표된 주크박스 뮤지컬에 관한 연구는 대부분이 ABBA의 음악들로 이루어진 세계적인 스테디셀러 뮤지컬<맘마미아!>에 관해 다룬 것이며, 그 외 한국 창작 주크박스 뮤지컬로는 故김광석의 음악으로 만들어진 뮤지컬<그날들>이나 <디셈버：끝나지 않은 노래> 등에 대해서 연구한 몇 가지 것들만 존재한다.
한 동안 ‘슬로우 푸드’나 ‘느림의 미학’과 같은 단어들이 등장해, ‘빠르게’만을 외치며 격변하는 시대의 감성을 새롭게 자극했다. 이와 비슷한 맥락으로, ‘옛날 사람들’은 이해하기 힘든 일렉트로닉 뮤직이나 관심 가지지 않던 신조어가사들로 이뤄진 곡들을 듣고 있노라면, 다시금 서정적인 가사에 조금은 촌스러운 리듬과 멜로디로 이루어진 음악들을 그리워하며 추억한다.
이러한 사실을 대변이라도 하듯이 2012년부터 케이블 채널 tvN에서는 80년대와 90년대 당시의 소소한 일상과 음악, 사회적 이슈 등을 섬세하게 그린 드라마 《응답하라》 시리즈가 방영되었고, 이 드라마 시리즈는 4년 동안 세 차례나 전국을 휩쓸었다. 또한 이 드라마에서 다뤄졌던 당시의 대중가요들을 리메이크해 발표하면서, ‘그 시절’을 살지 못한 세대들까지 옛 음악의 매력에 빠지게 만들었다. 2015년 뮤지컬 <젊음의 행진>은 《응답하라1988(2015)》의 방영시기와 공연시기가 겹치는 바람에 더욱 폭넓은 관객층의 입맛에 맞았고, 2007년부터 시작된 공연 시즌 중 가장 큰 흥행을 거두었다.
K-POP과 K-POP을 부른 가수들이 해외에서 각광을 받으며, 영화, 드라마 등 한국의 문화 콘텐츠들이 지속적으로 붐을 일으키고 있다. 뮤지컬 시장에서도 발 빠른 대처와 콘텐츠 분석으로 K-Musical 을 연구하고 발전시켜 우리의 뮤지컬로 세계화에 동참해야할 것이다.
본 연구는 한국 창작 주크박스 뮤지컬 중 오랜 기간 사랑받아온 뮤지컬<젊음의 행진>을 중심으로 연구를 진행한다. 더불어 이 작품의 특성과 함께 비교·분석될 가치가 있는 다른 콘텐츠들의 연구도 함께 진행할 것이다.
본고의 구성은 다음과 같다. 먼저 제 1장은 한국 창작 주크박스 뮤지컬에 대한 연구 목적과 대상 그리고 그 구성에 대해 설명한다. 또한 선행연구에 대해 고찰하고, 연구 방법을 나열한다. 제 2 장은 주크박스 뮤지컬의 정의를 설명하고 주크박스 뮤지컬의 역사를 살펴본다. 또한, 한국 창작 뮤지컬의 역사를 정리하고, 그 특징을 알아본다. 또, 주크박스 뮤지컬과 대중음악 콘서트를 함께 살펴본다. 그 후, 3장에서는 본격적으로 범위를 좁힌다. 한국 창작 주크박스 뮤지컬 <젊음의 행진>을 중심으로 작품 속, 기존 콘텐츠 소재의 활용에 대해서도 자세히 알아볼 것이며, 작품의 대본과 넘버에 대해서도 살펴볼 것이다. 작품을 본격적으로 분석한 후에는 이 작품 외의 다른 몇 가지 콘텐츠와의 비교 분석을 통해 서로의 장단점을 분석 해볼 것 이다. 마지막 결론에서는 앞서 분석한 내용을 토대로 앞으로의 한국 창작 주크박스 뮤지컬의 전망과 발전 방향에 대해서도 제시하고자 한다.
