관용 표현에 나타난 ‘산’의 개념화 연구 = A Study on the Conceptualization of ‘San(mountain)’ in the Idiomatic Expressions

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서는 산 관련 관용 표현에 반영된 ‘산’의 의미와 인지적 도식을 찾고, 관용 표현 의미와의 상관관계를 밝힌다. 관용 표현에 대한 사회적인, 문화적인, 역사적인, 심리적인 접근 등을 통해 우리의 사고방식과 인지 체계를 찾을 수 있는데, 관용 표현에 반영된 우리의 인식과 정서를 찾기 위한 일차적 작업은 언어적 분석일 것이다. 특히, 본고에서는 산 관련 관용 표현의 의미 구성을 분석하여 ‘산’의 의미가 관용 표현에 기여하는 양상과 은유 및 환유 도식 등 인지의미론적 분석을 통해 인지적 대상으로서 산을 바라보는 우리의 인지 체계 등을 살핀다. 본고에서는 산 관련 관용 표현을 확정하기 위해 먼저 관용 표현으로서 갖추어야 하는 특성을 두 개 이상의 실질 단어가 결합하고, 개념적 의미의 합이 아니며, 담화 상황에서 관용적으로 쓰이고, 종결형식 이외에는 굳어진 표현이라는 점으로 본다. 그리고 이 기준에 부합하는 산 관련 관용 표현을 추출 및 분석하여 관용 표현에서 산의 의미는 중심 의미를 기준으로 물리적 공간과 크기에 관련된 의미들이 중심 의미와 1차적 관계를 맺고, 상징이나 인지적 도식에 의한 의미들이 2차적으로 관계를 맺고 있음을 밝힌다.

This study investigated the meaning and schema of ‘mountain’ in idiomatic expressions related to mountain and their relationship with the relevant idiomatic expressions. Through social, cultural, historical, and psychological approach to idiomatic expressions, it is possible to understand our thought process and cognitive system. The first step to understanding our perception and emotion reflected in idiomatic expressions is linguistic analysis. This study analyzed the semantic composition of idiomatic expressions related to mountain and the pattern and metaphorical and metonymical schemata by which the meaning of mountain contributes to the idiomatic expressions, in order to investigate human cognitive system toward mountains as a cognitive object. To define idiomatic expressions related to mountain, in this study, the following characteristics were required in idiomatic expressions: first, two or more words were combined; second, they were not combined in the conceptual sense, are used idomatically in converstions; and, are a fixed expression except for the final forms. And, this study found that, in idiomatic expressions, the meanings of mountain that are related to the physical space and size form primary relationship with the central meaning of mountain and symbolic or schema-based meanings form the secondary meaning.
