The topic of this paper is regenerative braking which is one part of energy saving of excavator. A study to maximize energy-saving-efficiency is conducted. Firstly, this paper provides mathematical modeling of regenerative braking process in detail and analyzes that in view of energy saving efficiency. Subsequently, a novel regenerative braking algorithm is proposed by using the modeling. Finally, the improvement of energy saving efficiency by proposed algorithm is verified by simulation program, AMESim.
