Data were gathered through person-to-person interviews with 120 old people that were aged 65 or older, lived at nursing facilities for the elderly in Jeollabuk Province, and had a removable denture from August 1 to December 5, 2007. The subjects' satisfaction with their dentures was examined according to the characteristics related to a denture, general characteristics, and denture characteristics.
1. As for the characteristics related to a denture, the biggest number of the subjects had a full denture at 37.5%, and 62.4% of them used their dentures for three years or longer, which was a relatively long term.
2. The treatment of their dentures was done by a dentist in 79.2% of the entire cases, which was a bigger percentage than a curer with no license.
3. It turned out that 91.7% of the subjects paid constant attention to the state of their dentures and 66.7% said that the denture prices were adequate.
4. As for denture satisfaction according to general characteristics, those who were aged 75 or older had greater denture satisfaction than those who were aged 65~74, and those who graduated from middle school displayed a higher level of denture satisfaction than those who received no formal education or graduated from elementary school. There were statistically significant differences(P=0.011 and P=0.049, respectively).
5. As for leisure activities, those who enjoyed them showed greater denture satisfaction than those who didn't(P=0.01l).
6. As for perceived state of dental health, those who said they had good dental health were more satisfied with their dentures than those who said their dental health was average or poor(P=0.000).
