In order to remove 2,4-dinitrophenol from aqueous solutions, granular activated carbon manufactured by Wako Pure Chemical Company in Japan was employed as an adsorbent. The adsorption capacity of an adsorbent, pH and temperature effects, and finally adsorption isotherms were examined. The results were as follows
Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms were applied to experimental data. Freundlich adsorption isotherm matched with the experimental data better than Langmuir adsorption isotherm. As the best fit the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms at pH 3 were determined as follows :
q_e = 629.6511 C_e^(0.2390) (Freundlich isotherm)
q_e = 0.5527 C_e / 1 + 1.8254C_e (Langmuir isotherm)
