Some technical issues addressed in Generic Letter 96-06 by the U.S. NRC are related to the possibilities of two-phase flow and water-hammer phenomena which were not considered in the stage of design at a cooling water system to support containment fan coolers for cooling the high pressure and high temperature containment atmosphere during the design basis accidents such as a loss of coolant accident or a main steam line break accident accompanied by a loss of off-site power. The evaluations on the occurrence possibilities and effects of the phenomena of two phase flow and water-hammer at a chilled water system to support containment fan cooler in a nuclear power plant were performed in a view of containment structural integrity under the scenario of design basis accidents accompanied by loss of off-site power considering emergency operation procedures.
