First of all, there was a difference on perception of parenting attitude depending on the gender of children. Female students turned out to have more affection-denial type than male students. According to grades, 6th graders turned out to recognize parenting attitude more than 4th and 5th graders. According to the areas, children residing in metropolitan city and city turned out to recognize autonomous-controlling parenting attitude more than others. Secondly, female students turned out to be influenced by whether parents had a job more than male students in the academic self-domain. According to grade and residential area, there was no influence in the academic domain of self-concept. Third, all the areas of affection-denial including academic self-concept and non-academic self-concept turned out to be in positive correlation in children depending on parenting attitude. Such results imply that parenting attitude is very important in the period when self-concept is formed among children. Among parenting attitudes, affection from parents that influence on the formation of self-concept the most serves as a pivotal role in forming desirable self-concept of children. When parents respect children with unconditional love and concern, children are expected to have their desirable and positive self-concept developed through seamless interaction with parents.
