The world has enter the 4th industrial revolution in the rapidly changing society of the 21st century. Education is also changing rapidly according to the changed social atmosphere. The trend of education was shifted from emphasis on acquisition of knowledge to problem solving or creation using knowledge and information. Accordingly, the Ministry of Education presented the 2015 revised education curriculum that focuses on competence to foster creative and convergent individuals who can cope with future changes. While proposing competencies for each subject, it allowed learners to develop competencies in all subjects. The author studied a dance sports program based on competencies of physical education. This study proposes a dance sports program based on competencies shown in the expression domain of physical education for each grade. The purpose is to suggest the possibility of physical education programs for each sporting event through program design and to increase the value of dance sports programs at education sites. In the introduction, previous studies on competencies of physical education were explored to reveal that there is a lack of studies on the development of competence-based programs utilizing certain sporting events. Also, the necessity of dance sports programs based on the education curriculum focused on competencies of physical education was explained. In Chapter 2, competencies to prepare for the future society and competence-oriented education curriculum were understood. After finding out about 6 core competencies of the 2015 revised education curriculum, competencies of physical education presented by the Ministry of Education and the meaning of each were examined to find and develop various competencies in subjects. In Chapter 3, dance sports program design for each grade was planned out by selecting cha cha cha and rumba among dance sports to propose the procedure and details of program design. The program was divided into the introduction, development and summary steps, comprised of 10 sessions for each grade. The program to be developed by the author was presented as the result of this study in Chapter 4. The program for grades 1 through 3 was described in detail, along with the teaching theme and objective for each grade and session. Lastly in Chapter 5, the details and results of this study were summarized to draw a conclusion. It is difficult to demonstrate the dance sports program and expect an outcome from the dance sports program of this study based on the education curriculum focused on competencies of physical education. However, the meaning of this study is in attempting the design of an education program based on the education curriculum focused on important competencies of physical education utilizing certain sporting events. This can help increase the value of physical education through the development of diverse sporting events and programs. A follow-up study will be carried out to demonstrate the program and verify the value of education, hopefully discussing any other aspects which not dealt with in this study.
