This writing is for taking a look at the activities of a young man's association at Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do during Japan's colonial rule of Korea, especially in the 1920s. This writing divided those turbulent eras into three periods by keeping the emergence of a young man's association and its activity process in mind.
First, it was from 1920 to 1923 that each young man's association first made its appearance. This period witnessed each head of a township and public-spirited men of the locality taking the lead in a young man's association. They were developing every sort of cultural movements together with a farmer-enlightenment drive. In particular, they set up a training school & night study, and private schools.
The next period includes the year 1924 up to 1927. The central organization of this period was Shinhap young man's association. This organization developed a reformative youth movement. Shinhap young man's association joined the Joseon Youth Total Alliance in 1924 and expanded its stage for activity by establishing sister organizations at several places.
The third period marks the year 1928 up to 1930. It was the very period that the Dangjin Youth Alliance was founded. Those involved in this alliance spread out culture & education drive for a local community and even entered upon a lecture circuit for a crusade against illiteracy and enhancement of the public's consciousness. The Dangjin Youth Alliance became extinct in the early 1930s by the oppression of imperialist Japan. The youth movement took the lead in a local community movement while enlightening and educating local residents during the dismal period of Japan's colonial rule of Korea. Further, it was found out that the Dangjin Youth Alliance also played a key role even in the youth movement of Chungcheongnam-do.
