국제 공인 교육과정 IB의 초·중학교 수학 교육 내용과 방법 = An Analysis of Mathematics Contents and Teaching and Learning Methods of International Baccalaureate: Focusing on Primary and Middle School Level

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

International Baccalaureate(IB) that has been well known as international curriculum has been used by many countries and schools all around the world. The schools usually use IB with their own national curriculum. This study analyzed primary and middle school mathematics contents and teaching and learning methods of IB. As a result, mathematics contents of PYP are similar with Korean primary mathematics curriculum. However, in middle school level, some of mathematics contents of MYP are included in elective subjects in Korean high school. It indicates that the level of mathematics contents of MYP is higher than those of Korean middle school curriculum. In addition, PYP takes a transdisciplinary teaching approach and MYP takes an interdisciplinary teaching approach, so they teach multi subjects with one main theme. They also take learner-centered inquiry oriented teaching method. On the basis of the results, we discussed some implications for Korean mathematics curriculum and textbooks in regard to interdisciplinary integration and the form of curriculum document of IB. We also suggested the necessity of in-depth case study on IB certified schools.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

국제 공인 교육과정으로 인정받고 있는 International Baccalaureate(IB)는 여러 국가와 학교에서 자국의 교육과정과 더불어 채택하고 있다. 본 연구는 IB의 초등과정인 PYP와 중학교 과정인 MYP의 수학 교육 내용과 교육 방법을 분석하였다. PYP의 교육 내용은 우리나라에서 대부분 지도되는 것이었지만, 중학교의 심화수학과 기본수학의 일부는 우리나라 선택과목 내용의 수준도 있어 우리나라보다 MYP의 수준이 더 높다고 할 수 있다. PYP에서는 초학문적, MYP에서는 간학문적 접근을 취하여 하나의 주제 하에 여러 과목의 내용을 함께 다루는 것을 추구하고 있으며 학습자의 탐구 중심 교육을 실시하고 있었다. 이를 통해 교과 간 통합, IB 수학과 교육과정 문서에 제시된 요소를 우리나라 교육과정과 교과서에서도 반영할 것과 IB 인증학교의 수학교육에 대한 심층 사례 연구를 제안하였다.
