Recently most of the sites where a drain pipe maintenance enterprise is progressing are located in a residential area. There is a limited road used for a parking place and a passage of small cars. So in this site conditions, refilling construction must be carried out in the time limit for minimizing inconvenience of inhabitants and ensuring safety against a night traffic accident . Because of these space and time limits, constructive corporation carrying out refilling pipe should actually excavate underground and compact refilling material with a small construction machinery instead of a large one. But it is difficult to achieve objective degree of compaction demanded by the relative authorities of a drain pipe with the use of a small construction machinery. Accordingly, this study analyzed a internal and external bibliography about excavation and compaction of a drain pipe and reestimated result of in-situ test with standard compaction test. Also numerical analysis was carried through FLAC 2D(finite difference method program) using the trustable parameter obtained from a internal and external bibliography, and the process of refilling work and step of excavation were applied to modeling so influence of ground settlement and pipe deformation were studied. Through reestimated degree of compaction and result of numerical analysis, this study estimates whether internal criterion for degree of compaction is appropriate to a drain pipe refilling or not.
