This study tested the invariance of health-related physical fitness structure for male and female middle school students. It tests the ability of five factor(Static strength, Muscle Endurance, Flexibility, Skinfold, Cardiovascular Endurance) structure of health-related physical fitness to fit data based on 13 indicators of fitness for 591(309 males, 282 females) middle school students. Based on tests of factorial invariance, factor loadings and factor correlations were reasonably invariant between the two groups. But uniqueness were not reasonably invariant between the two groups. This study has important implications for substantive research that focuses on the comparison of health-related physical fitness structure across gender groups.
