South Korean culture is very lenient about drinking alcohol and, at the same time, it shows a negative view of alcohol addiction. Alcoholism affects physical, mental, social, behavioral aspects of oneself and family life. Despite lots of the problems related to alcohol and accidents, we have overlooked this severe mental health problem. In this result, government could not come up with such policies that help difficulties facing alcohol abusers and their families. Government should be doing more in general to provide cure and recovery for alcohol abusers. Recently, through out the world, each nation is working on amelioration of treatment condition for alcohol abusers, because public attitude regarding alcoholism is changing in a positive way. In 2006, our nation built a Bluebird Plan 2010 as a national alcohol plan. This paper examines three major points; Korean culture of heavy drinking, effort of International organizations and developed countries on reducing and preventing harmful effects of drinking (such as building strategies regarding alcoholism, providing cure and recovery system to alcohol abusers), presenting few political directions on alcoholism that our nation would be done.
