This study examined whether the phonological information of visually presented words had an effect on the pre-lexical stage by investigating event-related potentials (ERPs) during lexical decision. To do so, 21 participants performed a go/no-go lexical decision task consisting of heterographic homophones (e.g., 같이 – 가치), homographic homophones (e.g., 경비) and control words (e.g., 온탕). Although the N250 effect was not significant, the N400 effect was significant between conditions. In the discussion, this study presented the voltage map and sLORETA about N250 and suggests that phonological information is used early during the pre-lexical word recognition process.
