한국 대학생 영어 학습자 스피치 원고의 다차원 분석 = A multi-dimensional analysis of Korean college English learners` speech transcript.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

영어 스피치는 발표 원고를 글로 작성한 후 구두로 전달해야 한다는 점에서 문어와 구어의 특성을 동시에 지니고 있으며, 따라서 학습자들에게는 습득이 어려운 장르이다. 본 연구는 스피치 원고 쓰기교육의 기초 연구로써 한국 대학생들의 스피치를 Lancaster-Oslo-Bergen과 London-Lund 원어민 코퍼스의 스피치 및 근접 장르들과 비교하여 한국 대학생 영어 학습자 스피치의 문체적 특징을 밝히는 것을 목표로 한다. 스피치의 전반적인 특징을 밝히기 위해 본 연구에서는 다차원 분석(multi-dimensional analysis)이라는 분석 기법을 사용하여 스피치의 여러 측면을 동시에 비교한다. 분석 결과 한국 대학생 학습자 스피치와 원어민 스피치는 다섯 가지 차원 중 세 가지 차원에서 차이를 보인다. 한국 대학생 영어 학습자의 스피치는 자연스러운 스토리텔링의 요소가 부족하고 설득과 주장이 상대적으로 약한 반면, 원어민에 비해 더 추상적이고 격식을 갖춘 스타일을 사용하는 것으로 나타난다. 다차원분석의 결과를 통해 부족한 것으로 밝혀진 언어요소와 차원은 효과적인 스피치 영작문 교육을 위해 교재제작과 교수법개선에 반영하여 활용할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Writing and delivering English public speeches is challenging for Korean learners of the English language because speech transcripts have characteristics of both spoken and written English. As a preliminary endeavor to understand Korean English learners` speech transcript writing, the current study compares English speech transcripts written by Korean college students with speeches and some other genres in the two native corpora, i.e., Lancaster-Oslo-Bergen corpus and the London-Lund corpus. The main purpose of the comparison is to identify and describe the characteristics in Korean English learners` speech transcripts. Methodologically, the study uses multi-dimensional analysis to examine five dimensions of speech transcripts produced by Korean English learners and English native speakers. The results show differences in three out of five textual dimensions indicating that Korean learners of English adopt a more abstract and formal speech style, while native speakers make effective use of a colloquial speech style. Compared with native speakers` speeches, in addition, Korean English learners` speeches appear to be less effective in storytelling and persuasion. Based on the findings, some implications for the teaching of English speech transcript writing are discussed.
