A study on playground for the untouchables : focusing on Chandrabhan village case, India

First of all, when I first time visited Chandrabhan, there were many children who never heard about the word of the dream. Therefore, I decided to support and help them for six years, since I found the untouchable environment of the Chandrabhan. That’s why, I decided to participated in the project of the Chandrabhan by the construction of the playground. Especially, the playground refers not only the place, but also it describes the liberation from the darkness.
Therefore, the research of the project combines both the knowledge of the playground and the data base of the survey with the children all around the world. Also, we planed the different workshop of the project in other countries.
First of all, I defined the need of the playground, the history of the playground
and the effect of the children education. Secondly, I researched the environment of the playground all over the world and planed the effective design of the construction with the expert. Finally, I applied with the positive effect of the resource to the project of the Chandrabhan.
Consequently, the project of the Chandrabhan will give an opportunity to support the unchangeable children in all over the world by applying the construction of the playground. Also, the project of the Chandrabhan is not only the project of the art, but also it will give the liberation to the children.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

처음 인도 불가촉천민 마을 찬드라반에 갔을 때 ‘꿈’이라는 단어의 의미를 모르는 아이들을 보고 2013년부터 지금까지 꿈을 키워주기 위해 6년 차 봉사를 하며 지원해왔다. 진흙으로 만든 움집, 차가운 시멘트바닥, 불도 들어오지 않는 마을의 저녁. 열악한 생활환경과 어려운 교육환경을 보며, 불가촉천민 아이들에게 필요한 공간을 만들어 주고자 한다. 특히 놀이터는 아이들을 위한 놀이 공간뿐만 아니라 역사적으로 아이들의 놀 권리에 대한 해방을 의미한다.
이에 본 연구에서는 놀이터를 모르는 아이들의 놀이터에 대한 의미를 파악하며 놀이터를 아는 아이들과 비교분석 하여 새로운 놀이터 프로젝트를 계획하였다. 이를 위해 놀이터 그리고 찬드라반 아이들의 워크샵을 중심으로 연구 과정을 네 단계로 진행하였다.
첫째, 문헌연구를 통해 불가촉천민, 놀이의 개념을 파악하고 분석하며 놀이와 놀이터 유형을 분류하여 그들에게 필요한 놀이 환경을 고찰했다. 둘째, 국내외 사례 연구를 통해 현 놀이터 회사와 건축 상황을 알아보고 워크샵 분석을 통해 연구 대상에게 적절한 디자인에 대한 결론을 내렸다. 셋째, 앞의 이론과 분석을 통해 도출된 결론을 바탕으로 놀이터 디자인의 진행과정에 적용했다.
본 연구를 통해서 인도 찬드라반 아이들뿐만 아니라 놀이터가 없는 전 세계의 제 3세계 아이들에게 놀이터가 지어지는 기회가 되고, 놀이터 디자인이 디자인 영역에서의 문제 뿐만 아니라 하나의 사회적 해방운동으로서 자리잡길 바란다.
