In the field of digital healthcare, how to motivate users to change their exercise habits is a fundamental issue. We focused on who will give the health information to users: Ego(oneself) or Alter(the other). We made a mobile healthcare system applying this concept. In Ego condition, user’s avatar gave feedback; in Alter condition, another did. Participants used prototype for three days, and we examined the change in attitude toward exercise and actual behavior. As a result, there was no difference in intention to exercise between the two groups. Alter condition, however, showed higher increase in the number of steps than Ego condition. The result of this study suggests that receiving feedback from others is more effective for behavioral change.
