묵시문학과 영지주의 - 이신(李信)의 전위 묵시문학 현상 이해를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 묵시문학과 영지주의를 이신(1927-1981)의 ‘전위 묵시문학 현상’을 중심으로 고찰하여, 이 두 종교 사상이 헬레니즘의 혼합주의 안에서 밀접하게 연관되어 있음을 밝힌다. 이신은 상상력의 부패를 거부하고 고대 근동종교와 헬레니즘 종교와 철학 그리고 현대 철학자들의 사상 안에서 자신의 묵시 사상을 전개시키기 때문에 묵시문학에 대한 인문학적 통찰을 제시한다. 이러한 그의 해석은 묵시문학과 영지주의를 별개의 종교현상으로 이해하는 대부분의 학자들의 견해와 다르다. 묵시문학가들과 영지주의자들이 모두 ‘영’에 대한 강조와 악이 지배하는 현실 세계에서의 극심한 소외를 경험했다는 둘의 관련성을 직관적으로 인식한 그의 안목은 묵시문학과 영지주의 연구의 지평을 확장한다. 묵시문학이 나중에 영지주의화되거나, 또는 영지주의에 대항하게 된다는 학자들의 주장에 대해서, 이신은 이 두 개의 입장을 ‘성령의 신학’을 통해서 종합했다. 그의 삶과 신학은 고도로 발달한 자본주의와 신자유주의의 체제 속에서 물신숭배와 경쟁으로 치닫는 한국교회와 신학의 토착화를 추구하는 신학자들이 깊이 성찰할 필요가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines apocalyptic literature and Gnosticism focusing on Lee Shin(1927-1981)’s avant-garde apocalyptic literature phenomenon, and reveals that these two religious ideas are closely related within the syncretism of Hellenism. Lee Shin, who is not well known in Korean academic circles, offers a humanistic insight into apocalyptic literature because he rejects the corruption of imagination and develops his apocalyptic ideology within the idea of ancient Near Eastern and Hellenistic religions and philosophies as well as modern philosophers. His interpretation is different from the views of the most scholars who understand apocalyptic literature and Gnosticism as the separate religious phenomena. His perspective intuitively recognizes the relationship between apocalyptic writers and Gnostics, who emphasized the ‘spirit’ and experienced the extreme alienation in the real world dominated by the powerful evil, thereby expanding the horizons of the apocalyptic and Gnostic study. Regarding the claim of scholars that apocalyptic literature would later become Gnostic or oppose Gnosticism, Lee Shin synthesized these two positions through his ‘Theology of the Holy Spirit’. Therefore, the life and theology of Lee Shin needs to be reflected by the Korean church which is facing fetishism and competition in the highly developed capitalistic and neoliberal system, and theologians who seek inculturation of theology.
