“Be Reconciled to God” : Paul’s Message of Reconciliation in 2 Corinthians 5:16-21

국문 초록 (Abstract)

고린도 후서 5:16-21에 나오는 바울의 “화해의 메시지”는 하나님과 세상 사이의 적대감이 우리를 위해 죄가 되신 “그리스도를 통해” 해결된다는 관점에서 해석 해야한다. 따라서 “하나님과 화해하라”는(5:20) 바울의 권면은 우선적으로는 하나님과 인간의 수직적 관계에서 이해하는게 가장 적합하다. 하지만 인간의 기준에 따른 사회적 평가에 의해 촉발된 고린도 교회 갈등의 맥락은 화해의 메시지를 더 깊이 이해할 수 있는 유익을 가져온다. 바울은 하나님의 화해로 시작된 “새 피조물”을(new creation) 주장하면서 그 누구도 사람의 기준을 따라 판단받지 말아야 함을 강조한다. 결과적으로 하나님과의 수직적 화해는 다른 신자들과의 수평적 화해를 가져와야만 한다.

Paul’s “message of reconciliation” in 2 Corinthians 5:16-21 is rightly understood in the light of enmity between God and the world, given that hostility is remedied “through Christ” whom God “made to be sin” for our sake (5:21). Thus, “be reconciled to God” in 5:20 is naturally understood as most appropriate for the vertical relationship. However, reading the message of reconciliation in the context of Corinthian conflicts that were fueled by social evaluations according to human standards yields a deeper understanding of reconciliation. Paul argues for a new creation, initiated by divine reconciliation, that also evaluates no one according to human standards. Thus, vertical reconciliation with God must result in horizontal reconciliation with other believers.
