5ㆍ18 광주 소재 영화들에 드러나는 활력이미지의 계보와 대항담론 형성의 과제 = The Genealogy of The Potential Image & Problem of Counterdiscourse Formation : Thoughts on the Movies Dealing with 5ㆍ18 Gwangju

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 5ㆍ18 광주를 소재로 한 영화를 통해 정치경제학적인 역학관계의 변화와 맞물려 한국사회의 폭력이미지와 활력이미지가 어떠한 변화를 보이고 있는가를 살펴보고자 한다.
5ㆍ18 광주항쟁 당시의 동영상은 우리 사회의 폭력에 대한 기록이자 그에 대항한 주체들에 대한 기록이다. 그러한 5ㆍ18 광주의 영상은 한국 근대사에서 근원적인 폭력이미지이자 대항이미지로서 재전유되어 왔다. 때문에 5ㆍ18을 소재로 한 영화들은 우리가 현대사회의 폭력과 그에 대항하는 주체성에 대해 어떻게 감각하는지를 추적해 볼 수 있게 할 것이다.
그 추적은 역사적인 기억이 대중을 조직하고 재구성해 온 계보를 분석하는 과정 속에서 진행된다. 국민, 민족, 시민, 민중, 다중 등 대중을 정치적 주체로 명명하는 작업은 권력과 활력의 관계를 설정하는 것이며, 그 적대와 갈등의 전선을 정의하는 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 정치적인 것은 사회의 주체성에 대한 이름 짓기로부터 시작된다. 5ㆍ18 소재 영화들에서 대중은 어떻게 명명되며 혹은 그렇지 못하는가? 혹은 대중은 어떻게 목소리를 얻으며 혹은 그렇지 못하는가? 역사적인 기억이 대중을 재구성해 온 계보 속에서, 영화이미지가 현대의 권력과 활력을 상상하고 구성하는 방식을 보고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article attempts to study how the images of violence and potential have been changed with the everchanging political-economical dynamics by reviewing the movies dealing with 5ㆍ18 Gwangju democratization movement. Videos filming the real events of those days are records of the violence of our society and of the subjects who fought against it. The images in those videos have been reappropriated as radical violence images and counter-images. Thus, by reviewing the movies which took the 5ㆍ18 Gwangju movement as their subject, it would be possible to trace and figure out the way we perceive and sense the violence of the contemporary society and the subjects who resist it.
This work proceeds by analyzing the genealogy in which the historical memory has organized and reorganized the masses. Naming them people, or nation, or citizen or multitude as political subjects is not only to assume a certain relation between the power and the potential, but also to define a front of the conflict and the antagonism. Therefore it can be said that the political starts from naming the social subjectivity. In the movies dealing with 5ㆍ18 movement, by what name are the masses called, or are they even called? How do they get their own voices, or do they get the voices as such? Through this series of studies, I investigate the way the movie images imagine and compose the power and the potential in the genealogy in which the historical memory has reconstructed the masses.
