An Alternative Approach on Focus Prosody

This paper attempts to propose a framework in which the procedure of processing focus-prosody can be captured. Traditional NSR and FPR or phase-based rules like SSR and FSR need elaboration to capture the various characteristics of focus-prosody. Following the Focus structure suggested in Selkirk (1984) and modifying the model suggested in Marantz (1997), we argue that the component of Morphology plays a crucial role in determining the formal properties of focus; prosody, word order variations (p-movement (Zubizaretta 1998)) and Late Insertion in some languages.
