It still remains the scars of the Second World War although Europe and Asia have made a fresh start since 1945. Relatively to Japan Germany had admitted their mistakes clearly and forgiven their crimes. Europeans have helped each other to reconstruct from the chaos of the ruins of nightmare and made friendly diplomatic relationships. But antagonism is getting deeper between East Asian countries because of the unjustly liquidation of the past after WWⅡ and the thoughtless words of Japanese government officials.
I take up the need of the new turning point in hitory education to solve the present problems of East Asia. I analyzed the textbook of France and Germany, History: Europe and the World since 1945(Geschichte, Europa und die Welt seit 1945, Leipzig, Ernst Klett Schulbuchwerlage, 2006; Histoire, L'Europe et le monde depuis 1945, Paris, Nathan, 2006) as a sample to promote the peace and prosperity of East Asia.
I can arrange the good points of History: Europe and the World since 1945 below: First, it has the mutual understanding with approche crois´ee. Second, it is the book of frank self-examination. Third, it has the deep explanation of the system since 1945. Fourth, it is the textbook that weighs historical materials and data. Fifth, it is well edited with good skills for inducing the interest. Sixth, it is the official textbook of France and Germany.
The other side it has weak points below: First, it attaches importance to the European history that weighs French and German one. Second, it has a fixed viewpoint of Europe. Third, the textbook is made up for political history to excess.
Absolutely History: Europe and the World since 1945 is not the perfect textbook. But it would be the good model of our region's history textbook present day. Their strong efforts and wills between France and Germany have fought brutally for a long time to understand and forgive each other is carved into the textbook.
Because the effort to chase building good historical consensus and mutual understanding in East Asia has been being carried out a few years ago by NGO, I hope the governments of East Asia would win the sympathy of common historical comprehension. Also I am eager for my poor work to promote making common history textbook of East Asia between its governments.
