In Korean society, where there is a relatively inferior environment for and treatment of the disabled, the assessment of the disabled's feeling and experience of satisfaction and dissatisfaction in their societal and everyday lifestyle holds an important meaning as a guiding standard for the reality of social welfare for the disabled.
To investigate the satisfaction with lifestyle among the disabled, a survey was conducted among 440 disabled people.
The first result of the survey was that in regard to the general characteristics of the disabled, lifestyle satisfaction was low among males, those in their fifties, the jobless, subsistence level individuals, and agricultural workers. Secondly, lower than average satisfaction levels were found among all related factors in all types of disability according to the primary factor for different disabilities. Third, especially low levels were reported in those whose disabilities were of an internal form. The fourth point is that among all types of disabled, lower levels of satisfaction with income were directly correlated with low income. The fifth result was that either satisfaction with all interpersonal relationships including family, relatives, and friends was generally high, or satisfaction with matrimonial affairs was low. The sixth point is regarding satisfaction with attitude toward regional society and policies for the disabled. Satisfaction levels were either very low or they were suggesting the need for improvement in policies for the disabled.
