We propose to evaluate cortical activity in athletes with concussions by using single and paired pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation and also by assessing the effects of a single session of transcranial direct current stimulation on cortical excitability. Using non-invasive brain techniques is a feasible and a safe way to assess the effects of concussion as to determine whether treatment approaches are necessary. It will thus directly impact the military by enhancing the understanding of concussion and by providing a possible physiologic tool for diagnosis to explore.
