이라크의 자살폭탄테러 : 이슬람적 본질의 오염과 그 복원 The Pollution and Restoration of Islamic Fundamentals = The Suicide Bombers in Iraq

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문의 기본적인 문제의식은, 종교가 현대성에 대해 어떻게 반응하는가에 있다. 이러한 문제의식을 이론적으로 접근한 것이 종교적 근본주의 논의이다. 이에 이 논문은 이라크의 자살폭탄테러를 하나의 분석대상으로 삼아, 이슬람이 현대성에 어떻게 반응했는가를 고찰하는 것이 이 논문의 연구목적이다. 이러한 목적 아래 이 논문은 다음의 세 가지 연구주제에 주목한다.
첫째, 이슬람교도에 있어 현대성은 무엇인가? 이 논문에서는 대다수 이슬람교도가 현대성이 자신들과 자신들의 사회문화적 정체성을 구성하는 주된 요소인 이슬람적 본질을 오염시킨다고 생각하여, 테러를 통해 이에 반발하는 것임을 설명한다. 둘째, 테러는 왜 자살을 통해 이루어지는가? 이 논문을 통해지하드로 명명된 이러한 자살은 결국 현대성으로 오염된 이슬람적 본질의 복원을 위해 행해졌음을 설명한다. 셋째, 테러는 왜 악순환되는가? 이 논문은 현대성과 개인행위의 상호작용이라는 맥락에 기대어 이를 설명한다. 현대성이 이슬람교도의 생각과 행위를 강제ㆍ구속지우는 차원과, 현대성에 대응하려는 이슬람교도의 행위라는 차원에서 테러의 이러한 악순환을 설명한다.
요컨대 이라크의 자살폭탄테러는, 현대성이 이슬람적 본질을 오염시켰다는 차원에서 그것을 조장ㆍ촉진시키는 개인이나 집단을 그 주 대상으로 삼고 있으며, 그 본질의 복원을 위한 차원에서 스스로 목숨을 던지는 행위, 곧 자살폭탄테러를 감행한 것으로 이해한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

My concern is with reactions of religion to modernity. Religious fundamentalism allows to approach them theoretically. Focusing on the suicide bombers in Iraq, the paper aims to analyze the reactions of Islam to the modernity. For this, it investigates three subjects.
First, what is the modernity for Muslims? As a result of the analysis, they react to the modernity with the suicide bombers. For they hold that it is a polluter of Islamic fundamentals which integrate Muslims and constitute their socio-cultural identity. Second, why do the suicide bombers emerge? In brief, they, called Jihad, intend to restore the Islamic fundamentals which are polluted by the modernity. Third, why does the vicious circle continue to be? It can be explained that the vicious circle repeats in the opposite interaction between the modernity and personal actions with the Islamic identity.
In sum, the suicide bombers can be understood as both the reaction to certain individuals or groups as a polluter and the restoration of the Islamic fundamentals polluted.
