忠淸左道 門中書院의 建立과 役割 = The Establishment and Role of Families Seowon in Jwado Region of Chungcheong

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The families Seowon is the Seowon for the specific family to worship their ancestors and they are mostly built from the late 16c to 19c. This is a type of Seowon in the village society of the late Joseon Dynasty, and Sarims created the public opinions here and expanded their power to enter the central political world. After King Jungjong, many Seowons were built in all over the country, and especially at King Sukjong government, over 300 Seowons were built everywhere because of the Seowon overflowing phenomenon.
Jwado region of Chungcheong was the area where has many Sajok residents because it was closer from Hanyang geographically. A lot of Seowon and Sawoo were also built. This research has reviewed the families Seowon at Jecheon‧Cheongpoong‧Okchun‧Youngdong‧Cheongj
u‧Jincheon area.
Jecheon and Cheongpoong are close from Youngnam where the main area of Sarim, so they got effect from Youngnam school, and so did Okchun and Youngdong area in the same school root. However, Okchun was also affected by Uam Song Siyeol since he was from that area. Seowon and Sawoo of the east party-the north party line that built in Okchun have repeated the establishment and abolition as the central political world changes. Also, in Cheongju, many conflicts between Sajok occurred after Sinhang Seowon, the representative Seowon of Jwado region of Chungcheong, was built. Jincheon is where had the strong impact of Seoin and Soron.
Families seowon was mainly built by family to raise the status of the specific family. Namdang Seowon in Jecheon had the characteristics of Ganghakso, Jehyangso which are the original roles of Seowon while they provide the sacrificial rite for Lee Hwang, however, it changed into families Seowon after having the ritual service with Gang Yoo who is the ancestor of the representative family in 19c JinjooGang family. Bonggang Seowon at Cheongpoong was built as families Seowon of Cheongpoong Kim family and provided the sacrificial rites for Kim Sik and Kim Gwon, Kim Yuk who are the ancestors of the family.
Just like Bonggang Seowon, Mokdam Seowon at Okchun was built as families Seowon for Okchun Jeon family. Here, they are serving the religious rites for Jeon Sik, Jeon Paeryung and Jeon Yoo who are the ancestors of Okchun Jeon family. Especially, Okchun Jeon family and Jinjoo Gang family have built not only the families Seowon but also the library and pavilion to educate descendent of their family.
Chogang Seowon is the families Seowon built in Youngdong. In the early time, it was supported by Gihogye, however, there were conflicts around the ranking adjustment when the ancestors of Milyang Park family and Eunjin Song family were commemorated.
As one of families Seowon, Giam Seowon was built at Cheongju and its characteristics has changed like Namdang Seowon when they start to provide the sacrificial rites for Oh Sook who is the ancestor of Bosung Oh family in 19c. Baekrok Seowon of Andong Gwon family and Songgye Seowon of Chogye Byun family were built as families Seowon for each families and they are having the ritual services for the ancestors, Gwon Sang and Byun Sihwan. Baekwon Seowon at Jincheon was built when Sin Job moved to other place and it had the religious services for the ancestors of Gangrueng Kim family, Hansan Lee family, and Gosung Lee family who are the powerful Sajok.
families Seowon of Jwado region of Chungcheong was built followed by the power changing of the central political world or the plaques were given. Jiyuk Sajok banded together with Kyunghwa Sajok to keep the legitimacy of families Seowon and tried to acquire the high status of the family. And Kyunghwa Sajok tried to make their power stronger in the center based on these backgrounds. Also, families Seowon was having a bigger role as Jehyangso among the roles between Ganghakso and Jehyangso.
Families Seowon in the late Joseon dynasty was the center of gathering family among families, and it is built to make the power of families and their status stronger in the village society.
