Factors affecting non-uniform foam structures include wrinkled morphology, foam shape, and irregular solid structures. These factors result in different mechanical properties even though the relative densities are very much similar. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different cell structures including closed and open cell types of aluminum foam on mechanical properties. Geometric factors together with relative densities have been measured by using a micro-scanning apparatus followed by voxel software simulation. The mechanical properties then have been investigated by means of either compression or tension test. The relationship between the geometric characteristics and density was discussed.
