Glass beads of diameters between 0.346 and 0.517mm, and sand of size range 0.248 to 0.404mm were spout -fluidized with air in a fluidized bed with a draft tube. Some basic properties such as minimum fluidizing velocities, minimum spouting velocities, minimum spout -fluid velocities, maximum pressure drops, and bed voidages were observed.
The experimental results were correlated with several equations of different authors concerning fluidized beds, spouted beds, and spout-fluid beds. The modified Ergun equation did not well coincide with the experimental data, the Pallai and Nemeth equation did roughly fit the data, and the HGVL (Hadzisdajlovic, Grbavcic, Vukovic, and Littman) equation exactly coincided with the experimental data of this study. Derivation of new correlations was not necessary.
