포스트모던 도시에 대한 사회학적 탐색 - 몸, 공간, 정체성 = A Sociological Exploration on Post-Modern Cities: Body, Space, and Identity

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 포스트모던 도시가 안고 있는 다층적 모순을 분석한다. 포스트모던 도시는 소비주의적 욕망을 동력으로 움직인다. 소비주의는 공간마저도 상품화시켜 화폐적 논리에 종속시킨다. 하지만 포스트모던 공간은 혼종성을 특징으로 하고 있기도 하다. 전근대, 근대, 후기자본주의의 요소들이 서로 얽혀서 그 자체로 독특한 혼종성을 창조하고 있다. 논문은 이러한 도시의 모습을 설명하기 위해 근대 도시이론들의 계보를 간략하게 검토하는 것으로 시작한다. 그리고 그러한 계보의 결정적 계기로서 앙리 르페브르를 위치시킨다. 르페브르가 포스트모던 도시의 억압적 성격을 파악하면서도 그것으로부터 벗어날 수 있는 저항의 계기를 동시에 이야기하고 있기 때문이다. 일상에 뿌리 내린 자본주의적 논리가 어떻게 사람들을 상품과 화폐에 논리에 종속시키는지 비판하는 것만큼, 일상의 여기저기에 존재하는 저항의 틈새를 찾는 작업도 중요하다. 우리의 몸의 리듬과 집합적 기억이 지배적인 공간질서와 마찰을 일으키면서 생겨나는 탈구의 지점들을 찾아내는 것이 중요하다는 것이다. 이러한 탈구의 지점들은 혼종성의 부정적 측면(권위주의+도구적 합리성+소비주의)을 넘어 긍정적 요소들(유대+민주주의+다양성)의 발현으로 전환시킬 수 있는 저항운동의 출발점이 될 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article analyzes the multiple contradictions within post-modern cities. The post-modern cities work through consumerist desires, and consumerism commodified even space and subjects it to logic of money. On the other hand, post-modern cities imply hybridity as its distinctive nature. The characteristics of pre-modern, modern and late capitalist eras are intermingled and this over-determined social character produces the unique hybridity. This paper begins to briefly explore the genealogy of modern urban theory, and then evaluates Henri Lefebvre as a critical moment of it. Lefebvre not only provided a cogent explanation on the suppressive logic of post-modern cities, but also discussed how to escape from it. As much critically explaining how capitalist logic rooted in everyday life subjects people to logic of commodity and money, it is important to find diverse cleavages in everyday life itself. In other words, it is crucial to find the points of dislocations produced by the attritions between the rhythm of our body and our collective memory, and dominant spatial logic. These dislocations can be starting points of resistant movements to transform the negative aspect of hybridity(authoritarianism+instrumental rationality+consumerism) into a reconstruction of positive elements of it(bond+democracy+diversity).
