서울, 정념의 지도 = 2000년대 소설을 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

How is the Seoul city represented by the authors of the 21st century? The following explores the literary background and thoughts of 21st authors in accordance with the methods of their recognition of the Seoul city. The first is the object of the desire : Jung Yi-hyun`s novels. It`s the sense of insecurity and anxiety with which Korean city dwellers are held captive. However, that is why this short story allows candid and natural reflections, not unfamiliar criticism. Those reflections were probably possible because of Jung Yi-hyun`s natural sense. In general, two aspects of the city are equally treated in her novels, but in any case, she never maintains a negative view towards life in the Gangnam district where she was born and spent her youth. Women says “I`m an urbanite by nature”. in her novels. Or it can be said that though the metropolis of Seoul sometimes breeds solitude and sorrow, it is for her A Lovely Place. The second is the field of the inter-recognition: Kim Ae-ran`s novels. Kim Ae-ran selects run-down parts of Seoul in lieu of glittery skyscrapers for her stories. Kim persistently investigates the 20-year-olds cramped one-room accommodations such as a gosiwon, or study room, and basement rental rooms in Seoul. The generation does not have a private place. They are squeezed into a much smaller and restrictive space provided by a mere room in Kim`s second collection of stories. Kim, however, does not portray the dark and small rooms as depressing or suffocating. The 20-year-olds tried to get recognition in Seoul with humanity nevertheless they are not sure when a department store will collapse or when a room will turn into a strange space. The third is the friendship of social minorities : Hwang Jeong-eun`s novels. Hwang Jeong-eun`s first full-length novel, One Hundred Shadows is remarkable in that it reconstructs the voices of social minorities. Hwang`s One Hundred Shadows stems from this particular kind of sensitivity. The subject is the social issue of an old electronics market (in Seoul) being torn down for redevelopment. Hwang does not stop at giving a general commentary on the injustice of eviction or the rights of the tenants. The voices of social minorities remained in the heart of Seoul, and upset the metropolitan control system and authorities. The works of three Korean authors were a rediscovery of the Seoul city. They concerned aout the Seoul city and urban cultural politics more than anyone else.
