다문화교육 연구자의 연구윤리 = 질적연구의 윤리적 딜레마를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 일반적으로 질적 연구에서 강조되는 추상적인 연구 윤리의 개념을 다문화교육의 맥락에서 구체적으로 확장하고, 그 안에서 발생 가능한 질적 연구자의 윤리적 딜레마를 심층적으로 검토하는 것이다. 이를 위해 연구자는 다문화교육 연구의 윤리적 딜레마를 ‘연구참여자의 동의’, ‘연구참여자의 인권 보호’, ‘연구참여자와의 라포형성’ 그리고 ‘연구자-연구참여자 간의 권력관계’ 등의 네 가지 수준에서 재검토하고, 각각의 연구윤리 항목에 내재하는 윤리적 쟁점을 심층적으로 논의하였다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 다문화교육 연구에서 연구윤리가 단순히 문서화된 연구윤리 매뉴얼의 적용을 의미하는 것이 아니라, 연구 현장에서 발생하는 윤리적 쟁점에 대한 감수성을 바탕으로 윤리적 딜레마를 해결하기 위해 끊임없이 반성하는 연구자의 윤리적 역량을 강화하는 도구로서의 역할을 담당해야 함을 강조한다. 본 연구의 결과는 실증주의적-근대적 합리성과 보편적 원칙을 중시하는 연구윤리관에 대한 비판적 성찰을 요청함과 동시에, 다문화교육 연구공동체 안에서 연구윤리의 의미에 대한 논의가 더욱 심화되고 확장될 필요성을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study attempted to delve into the ethical dilemmas hidden under the abstract codes of qualitative research ethics in the context of multicultural education research. To do this, I re-examined the four core ethical principles regarding the relationships between the researcher and research participants-informed consent, research participant’s human rights, developing rapport with research participants, and power relation between the researcher and research participants-and illuminated complex ethical issues/dilemmas prevalent under those ethical codes. In sum, this study maintains that a qualitative researcher’s fulfilling his or her ethical duties toward research participants should not be regarded as the mechanical application of abstract, universal moral principles and guidelines; rather it should be understood as the researcher’s ethical proficiency to negotiate ethical dilemmas emerging from the relational and dialogical nature of human research. The arguments of this study suggest that the multicultural education research community needs to critically reflect on the meaning of research ethics and the relationship between the researcher and research participants.
