Abstract

A Study on Formation and Improvement of Corporate Heritage and Culture through Records/Archives Management
- Focusing on Activities of Social and Corporate Foundations -

Since establishment of capitalism economic system, our society have been affected a lot in economic activity by corporations, which have played as one of the axises to drive society.
The activities of corporation affects formation of corporate culture as well as corporate management direction by entrepreneurship, corporate philosophy and management philosophy. The records produced in corporate do not stay just as heritage any more but have a meaning of social value. That is, corporate culture formed as corporate heritage has effect on individuals, corporations, regions and society, and its importance is growing.
These corporate heritage and corporate culture can be managed systematically and kept by records management. Also, beyond archives within corporation, the foundation and archives in the foundation can promote formation and promotion of corporate heritage and corporate culture for sharing and utilization of records having social value. .
Foundation is a nonprofit organization. Through an archive in foundation, collection, organization, conservation of records can be done systematically. Also, the archive in foundation can carry out various works including what cannot be done by archive in corporation.
Because corporation focuses on records management (management of records which are being currently produced in connection with business) on the purpose of using for business and reference services for internal users, the records are difficult for external users to use. If foundation, a nonprofit organization, manage corporate history and records, external users can share information and culture about the corporation easily, which will help the public to build knowledge and researchers to carry out academic research. Though corporations are carrying out various activities for image improvement, because of its being an interest group, it is difficult to approach citizens easily. On the other hand, through foundation, which is nonprofit organization, corporations have chance to harmony with citizens and improve corporate image by informing citizens that they serve the nation and society. Also, it is easy that records management by the corporate is believed to be mainly biased focusing on business profit. But, records management by foundation as nonprofit organization can guarantee transparency of corporation by highlighting the reliability of the records. These records managed by archives in foundation are regarded as not what is limited to the corporation but as heritage of the nation and society, so they will be worthy of conservation and usage a lot and various activities using them will be carried out actively.
They come to play a role as an inspiration to the corporations which have a short history or unestablished entrepreneurship and corporate culture. Also, they can make it possible for corporations to live together and make local culture with local residents through connection with community. In addition, they can contribute to corporate development with collection of korean whole corporate history, capitalism mind, abroad cases and others, out of certain corporation. Besides, utilization of the archive in foundation and activities using it are infinite.
Like this, the archives in foundations can make corporate heritage and corporate culture based on it be managed systematically, so that they can contribute to improvement of corporate image and competitiveness. This has positive effect on strengthening corporate brand and corporate reliability, resulting in making profit, original purpose of corporation.
