당파적 양극화의 비정치적 효과

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 21대 총선 직후 실시된 온라인 설문조사 데이터를 활용하여 당파적 양극화가 비정치적 영역에서 어떤 효과를 갖는지 살펴본다. 분석결과는 정당 간 감정적 선호의 차이가 큰 사람일수록 자신과 정당일체감을 공유하는 사람들과의 선별적 관계를 더욱 선호하고 타인이 어떤 정당을 지지하는지에 따라서 그의 도덕적/지적 능력을 판단하는 경향이 있음을 보인다. 뿐만 아니라 이 상관관계는 정치 지식의 증가에 따라서 더욱 강하게 나타난다. 이러한 결과들은 한국에서의 정서적 양극화에 대한 이해를 돕고 정치 지식의 중개적 역할에 대하여 다른 나라에서도 연구해볼 필요성을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Using data from the on-line survey conducted shortly after the 21st Korean National Assembly election, this paper examines the consequences of partisan polarization in the non-political domain. Results show that the greater extent of affective polarization⎯the difference between affective evaluations of the supporting party and the other party⎯leads one to prefer selective relationships with those who share the same partisanship in everyday life and to judge other’s intellectual and moral capabilities based on his or her partisanship. In addition, this paper also finds that non-political consequences of partisan polarization become stronger as one’s level of political knowledge increases. These findings have important implications regarding our understanding of partisan polarization in Korea and the role of political knowledge in mediating voters’ information processing mechanism.
