중국해외이민의 역사적 자율성 탐구 : 비밀결사 “홍문”과 중국의 역대 정치조직과의 관계를 중심으로 = Exploring the Historical Autonomy of “Chinese Overseas Immigrats”: Focusing on the Relationship between Secret Association “Hong-Men(洪門)” and Past Chinese Political Organizations

국문 초록 (Abstract)

“화교”는 그 이름에서부터 중국에 의해, 그리고 중국을 위해 움직이는 타율적 존재로 규정되어 있는바, 이에 “화교”의 중국에 대한 애국은 선택이 아닌 운명으로 이해되었다. 이에 본 연구는 “화교=중국해외이민”이라는 기존의 공식에서 벗어나 “화교”의 역사는 “중국해외이민”의 다양한 선택 가운데 하나라는 가정을 세우고, 비밀결사 홍문의 중국 현실문제에 대한 참여 과정을 추적하면서 “중국해외이민”의 자율적 역사를 발굴코자 시도하였다. 중국해외이민사회는 홍문이라는 조직을 통해 중국의 운명을 바꾼 두 차례의 역사적 선택을 하게 된다. 첫 번째는 19세기 말부터 시작된 보황파와 혁명파에 대한 선택이었고, 두 번째는 20세기 초부터 시작된 중국국민당과 중국공산당에 대한 선택이었다. 보황파와 혁명파의 지도자는 각기 홍문에의 입문을 통해, 그리고 중국국민당과 중국공산당은 각기 홍문과의 합작이나 통합을 통해 중국해외이민사회로부터 선택되길 희망했다. 결국 이들이 내린 두 차례의 선택으로 중국의 운명은 바뀌었고, 더불어 중국해외이민은 “화교”의 신분으로 중국정치에 참여하게 된다. 이는 중국해외이민의 역사가 자율로 움직이고 있음이며, 더불어 “화교”의 신분은 중국해외이민이 선택한 능동적 행동의 결과임을 의미한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The name “Overseas Chinese(華僑)” itself means a passive being driven by and for China, and the academic community interpreted Overseas Chinese s patriotism toward China as fate, not choice. Thus, the study attempted to break away from the existing formula of “Overseas Chinese=Chinese Overseas Immigrats”, assuming that the history of “Overseas Chinese” is one of the various choices of “Chinese Overseas Immigrats”, and to discover the autonomous history of “Chinese Overseas Immigrats” by tracking the secret gang HongMen(洪門) s participation in China s reality issues. The Chinese Overseas Immigrats Society will make two historic choices that changed China s fate through an organization called “HongMen”. The first was the choice of “Royalists” and “Revolutionary” from the late 19th century, and the second was the choice of “Chinese Nationalist Party” and “Chinese Communist Party” from the early 20th century. The leaders of “Royalists” and “Revolutionary” hoped to be chosen from the Chinese Overseas Immigrats by joining HongMen, and “Chinese Nationalist Party” and “Chinese Communist Party” hoped to be chosen from the Chinese Overseas Immigrats through collaboration or integration with HongMen, respectively. In the end, the two choices they made changed China s fate, and in addition, overseas Chinese immigrants participated in Chinese politics as “Overseas Chinese”. This means that the history of overseas Chinese immigration is moving at its own discretion, and the status of “Overseas Chinese” is also the result of active activities chosen by overseas Chinese immigration.
