선택적 함구증 청소년의 심리적 불안감소를 위한 기독교상담 사례연구 = A Case Study on Christian Counseling for the Reduce of Psychological Anxiety of Selective Mutism in the Adolescents

The selective mutism is an psychological anxiety disorder in which a person who is normally capable of speech does not speak in specific situations or to specific people. The selective mutism usually coexists with shyness, social psychological anxiety, and social phobia. Also, the adolescents who have experienced trauma are known communication disorder to suddenly stop speaking. The selective mutism can contribute to chronic depression, further anxiety, and other interpersonal relation and emotional problems. The medical treatment of this disorder is medication to with phenelzine and fluoxetine. The skills of counseling psychology is art therapy, music therapy, game play therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and family therapy. But this study is qualitative case research with Christian counseling for the reduce of psychological anxiety of selective mutism in the adolescents. The participant is 17-year-old boy to have psychological anxiety by selective mutism’ symptom. This case research implemented to be 9 times of individual counseling. The Christian counseling for the reduce of psychological anxiety is Bible leading, intercessory prayer, and worship service. The result of research has been reduced of psychological anxiety by 35.7% than in pre-test, decreased 21.9% than in after-test. In addition, participant has been improved communication with the mother. In the above result, Christian counseling’ skill has been proven to be effective for the reduce of psychological anxiety of adolescents’ selective mutism.
