놀이에 나타난 영아와 보육교사 및 또래들간의 관계형성 과정에 대한 탐구 = How Toddlers Form Relationships withChild Care Providers and Peers through Play

This study examined how 10 toddlers, all I year of age, formed relationships with their child care providers and peers during their free play time at a child care center. In addition to the toddler subjects, two care providers also participated in the study. As researcher, I visited the child care center 90 times and participated in the toddlers' free play time for 12 months, from March 2005 to February 2006.
The major findings of this study are as follows. First, there is a link between a care provider and a toddler's emotional exchange in toddler's understanding and the ability of expressions.
The responses of child care providers to the toddlers’ needs were especially important. Second, peer relationships between toddlers were formed through mutual interest in one another and through interactions between peers. Play materials served as a medium in the formation of peer relationships.
The insights provided by this study can be used to as guidelines to understanding the nature of one-year-old toddlers' relationships with peers and child care providers and thus, to planning and evaluating curriculum and interaction strategies. As enrollment of this age group is increasing, more in-depth studies are in order.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 어린이집 1세 영아반의 자유놀이시간 동안 영아가 보육교사 및 또래들간의 관계가 어떻게 형성되는지를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구 참여자는 C어린이집 1세반 영아 10명과 보육교사 2명으로 선정하였다. 영아들이 어린이집에 입소한 2005년 3월부터 2006년 2월까지 12개월 동안 오전 자유놀이 시간에 총 90회 참여관찰하였다. 참여관찰자료, 심층면담, 보육교사들의 기록, 기타 관련 자료를 수집한 후 분석하였다. 연구 결과 놀이상황에서 영아와 보육교사와의 관계 형성하기는 정서적 교감을 통한 이해와 표현, 영아의 발달적 특성을 반영한 반응 등이 영아와 보육교사와의 긍정적인 관계를 유지하는 데 가장 주된 요인으로 나타났다. 그리고 놀이상황에서 영아와 또래들간의 관계는 또래에 대한 관심과 상호작용을 통해 형성되었으며 이 시기 영아의 또래들간의 관계 형성 매개물로서 놀잇감이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 기관에서 생활하는 영아들이 증가하는 시점에서 1세반 영아들이 보육교사 및 또래들간의 관계를 형성해나가는 과정에 대한 기초 자료로서 의미가 있으며 이에 대한 지속적이고 심층적인 연구의 필요성을 시사한다.
