In this paper we have first turned our attention to the general notion of Case theory and θ-role assignment in the frame of the GB theory, and next reviewed the current theories of Stowell(1981) and Yim(1984) with respect to Case assignment to clausal arguments. Chomsky(1981) assumes that a clausal argument may be assigned a θ-role even though not Case-marked irrespective of the Visibility Conditoin. He claims the clausal argument should be exempt from the Case Filter. Stowell(1981) proposes the Case Resistance Principle(CRP) to account for Case-marking of clausal arguments. The CRP says that the clause may not receive the structural Case because it bears a Case-assigning feature, that is [+Tense, +Past]. He argues that tensed clauses in the subject and object position must undergo Topicalization or Extrapositon to satisfy the CRP and the θ-criterrion and that to-Infinitival clauses are intrinsically Case-marked. We have seen that Stowell’s CRP analysis for clausal arguments has a weakness in that the clausal argument which appears as a complement of psychological states of Adjectives is assigned a θ-role not by the general θ
